Top 100 Bestseller!

Four years.

That’s how long Wesley Kent has to live with the girl his dad shacked him up with, and then he can collect his inheritance and escape small-town life. He gets through the prison sentence by pretending Dahlia Reynolds doesn’t exist. With three years down and one more to go, he doesn’t expect much to change. That is, until the girl that’s not supposed to exist sharpens into his reality, making it impossible to ignore her.

Three years.

That’s how long Dahlia Reynolds has been living with a total stranger. She’s convinced herself Wesley Kent is no more than an illusion in the hallways. It’s easy to do, especially since that same illusion has never spoken more than two words to her. But one mistaken identity later, and she finds herself caught up in the mysterious world Wesley lives in. One by one, he begins knocking down the safe, comfortable walls she built, leaving her wondering what his motives are. Does he want to expose her—or free her?

Doll (Dahlia) and Wes are forced by the terms of Wes's Dad's will (also a father figure to Doll) to live four years of college together in the same house or forfeit a large inheritance. For three of those years they have ignored one another until, one day, Wes finds Doll out of her usual "please don't notice me disguise" (make up and large glasses) and realizes she is beautiful. Instantly, they are attracted to each other and must fight against their usual avoidance to see if they can be more than just roommates.

So first, this whole idea that he never really saw her is just dumb. He's seen her before but her make up and glasses disguise was so good he couldn't tell she was gorgeous? I had that line from a Thomas Dolby song running through my head: "Good heavens, Miss Sacamoto, you're beautiful!" Lol

On top of that, they are college students--seniors--both majoring in archaeology. But somehow, they are also collegiate Indiana Joneses?? Wes has gone on treasure expeditions and found things on his own and Doll is an antiquities expert...all before grad school. I don't care if other people in your family have done this. At 19/20yo, Wes has smuggled priceless artifacts out of foreign countries? Uh huh. Oh, and there's an evil group called the Black Templars who want to steal something from Wes and will kill anyone to do it. Right.

The characters were pretty unrealistic and the plot laughably so. I couldn't even fall back on the progression of their relationship because that, too, was awkwardly written. And there were dangling ends of story lines (Charlotte's future, Doll's father, will Wes EVER read the end of that letter??...) I assume future books will explain these things but I will not be reading them to find out.

Pretty bad. And I actually LOVE archaeology!

Good sweet story. With some nice historical facts thrown in there to show the author did good research with a little bit of mystery. I recommend it if you need a feisty sweet story to brighten your days. The h isn't annoying but isn't a pushover either.
I actually loved this book. I didn't know what to expect when I found this book, but I'm so glad I took the chance.
I fell in love with the characters and the storyline. A contemporary romance that was different and refreshing!
I'm hoping the other characters get their own story.
it was a good story BUT I felt as if the author wanted to put too many different topics into one book, events which if she hadnt written in the book wouldn't have made any difference to the story, I felt as if she sometimes lost track of the story, but overall it wasn't a bad book to read.
This is a wonderful book. We see pretenses dropped and people see who they really are. I felt for Dahlia and when I see why she is hiding herself behind makeup I wanted to hug her. She has been through so much and to just want that connection to her family is touching. Her feelings to Wes are understandable as well. They are thrown together under circumstances neither can control and Wes is angry. She uses this anger as a reason to stay away so she doesn't fail. Failure when she is grieving and trying to cope is not an option for her. After three years, Wes sees her I mean really sees her and it disarms her. No one has ever gotten past the defenses and understood but somehow he does. I think it's because of all the pain and sadness he has gone through. These two are meant for each other. They are both suffering loss and anger. They both are adventurers and love the hunt for treasure. Each for different reasons but still love it none the less.

As they get to know each other one night, things change. Feelings can't be denied and a bond forms. One of support, comfort and love. They both try to deny it but can't in the end. It is especially seen when Dahlia is forced into a situation she had no idea about and Wes has to make decisions he never believed he would. I feel for him at this point, he found out his dad pushed him away for reasons that weren't what they seemed but is upset because he would have liked him to realize it didn't matter and all he wanted was him, Dahlia isn't talking to him, he has to give up a promise to his brother for Dahlia and his friend isn't who he thought he was. Meanwhile he loves Dahlia with everything in him and doesn't know how to let her know.

As they go on a adventure, the anger and disappointment each feels dissipates and they rely on one another to get through things. They also stop denying each other exists. Unfortunately once they realize how they feel and stop denying, a opportunity comes up that Wes can't turn down and Dahlia won't let him. Dahlia does something silly and they lose time together but Wes in the end has enough and goes to her. The ending is beautiful and we see how love heals wounds, shows support for each other and is patient and kind.

A sweet beautiful romance that shows the power of love to heal, support and be patient. Such a beautiful story I would though like to see if they stay together and how his hunt turns out.
3.5 stars. Overall it was a good read about Wesley and Dahlia without any major grammatical errors. However, I had to suspend reality in order to enjoy the story as some of the events that happened seemed a bit farfetched for their ages as seniors in college despite them having family in the field. Also, some details needed more explanation in order for me to get a clear picture - like how Dahlia's makeup disguise could make her appear unrecognizable, yet she supposedly looked gorgeous without any makeup at all. That seemed counterintuitive to me. Otherwise a solid, original storyline.
