This "book" would have made a great introduction to a good novel but, as a stand-alone book, there was too little substance and too much description. The triviality of the book made me angry at the author for foisting this travesty upon me. I wouldn't be this furious if I hadn't paid full price upon initial release. In addition, upon the initial download and first-time entry into the book, I was taken not to the first page of text but to the end of the book! This immediately suggested to me that possibly the author and/or the publisher may have been attempting.to use the Kindle Unlimited page load scam in which the author gets paid by page views rather than by the purchase price. Great characters, good plot and excellent world building. It ends with many things unresolved which hint at a next book. I'll definitely get it when it comes out and read it.
I'm definitely looking forward to another book. Keep up the good work!
This book was absolutely ridiculous, poorly written, and obviously a complete waste of time.
The Million is a wildly inventive world, featuring startling wealth and awe-inspiring technology. Amidst this splendor is a well done, intricately written sleuth story, pitting a young man against the elite as he tries to solve the mystery of his family’s betrayal. It’s a must read.
I'm a big fan of Schroeder's work, and I enjoyed this story, which is set in his Lockstep universe. My only complaint is that it's quite short -- about 25,000 words, which is about a third the length of a typical novel. It reads like the first of a longer set of linked stories, kind of like the Murderbot series. The price is appropriate for a story of this length, but if I'd paid ten bucks for the paperback I think I'd feel cheated.
Read about 80 or so pages into the book. My first impression the story tries to bombard you with names and techno-babble right off the bat. At the 10 page mark, you start to think you must have missed the first book in this series, and thats why nothing really makes sense. But no, unfortunately the book really is that bad at giving us background info. I found the book to be so dull I could not manage to finish it, even after 3 different attempts. If you want a book that won't leave you wanting for more/ a good sleep aid/ character arcs so bad Michael Bay would blush, this is the book for you.
