Flesh Harvest An extremely gory horror novella edition by Jacob Rayne Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

When Osmo his wife Grace along with their son Graham and daughter Marie went looking for the missing family dog they had no idea the horrors that awaited them at the farm.Jacob Rayne delivers a chilling tale that will leave you terrified of barns for the rest of your life. This was a fantastic horror story with a supernatural creature that sets my heart to pounding just writing about it.Bravo Jacob Rayne!
Well... I don't usually leave reviews but I feel I need to on this occasion.
I have seen a few good recommendations for this and after reading some fantastic reviews here I felt compelled to download Flesh Harvest.
I really wanted to enjoy this read as I am from the North East of England and was looking forward to identifying with the story and location.
It pains me to say that I was left truly underwhelmed. I feel cheated by the previous reviews.
I personally think that this is very poorly written, there is so little description that it is almost impossible to relate to the characters or the location. It would have been way more hard hitting to have some references to the local area or landmarks, as it is - it could be anywhere in the country!
There was no depth to the characters, no detail or defining, hence it leaves you feeling distant and unsympathetic to any of them. The first few pages where the initial incident takes place with Osmo and his family at the farm is written with no feeling or emotion, I know this is a fiction story, but the creature on the farm is less far fetched than the normal everyday people's reactions to horrific tragedy. This is a theme that continues throughout the story.
I am left with the impression that a child has written this short tale due to the lack of life experience that is portrayed.
Now don't get me wrong, I was not expecting a James Herbert novel here, but I was hoping for a little more than a school boy's English homework.
Mr Rayne, you need to read, read and read many many books and improve how you connect to your own audience. You need to build a character and embed an emotional connection to hook your readers.
I am left feeling very disappointed by this download. A little more time spent seriously analysing what you have written and melding in some life experience and empathy to make readers love or hate your characters, or at least relate to them in any small way.
I don't mean to be harsh, I just want to inject some honesty into the reviews that have been left previously, people may be guilty of writing down what you want to hear instead of some constructive honesty.
This is the story of a creepy old barn. The barn has been the stuff of local folklore for a long time. Tales are told of something sinister in the barn, something that yearns for human flesh, and a spate of grisly murders would attest to that. The Momente family have had a call that their missing dog has been seen near the barn. Will they find their dog, and will they make it out alive or will they join the many before them.......?

This was a high octane, high energy gorefest. It was, quite simply, fab. I loved the idea, and the twist at the end sort of left the door open for more, or an expansion of this novella. The characters were solid, and although there were only a few of them, they carried the story well. The pace belted along, and I was swept up in the story until the end. I totally recommend this as a quick read, that packs a lot of punch!

I received a complimentary copy of this novella in exchange for my honest review.
This is a very good book. It was different and lots of action. The monster was goofy but still a good book
Thoroughly enjoyed the story, though it was far too short, and the pacing was off, felt like I was reading at 100mph. Slow it down, flesh out the story and you'd have one hell of a novel!
Enjoyably grim storyteller, will be keeping my eye on this author
Very fascinating and interesting book. I really enjoyed reading this book and I would recommend it to anyone who's looking for a nice horror story.
While I enjoyed the fast pace in this one, beginning right from the start, I found myself a little confused in a couple of spots. Some things just didn't seem to come together quite as easily as I think it was supposed to. I still enjoyed the creepiness of the story, however, so if you want something quick and fun, I would still recommend this one. I'll try more by Jacob.
