A New World Taken eBook John O'Brien

As far as zombie series goes, this one falls squarely in the "military hero" camp. This isn't a story about regular folks dealing with the collapse of their world. Rather, it is a bunch of military types with a lot of weapons and explosives. This isn't a detractor. Just wanted to let folks know the point of view. The editing, at least up to this point, has been horrible, with missing words and punctuation that throws off the narrative at times. Also, as has been mentioned in a handful of other reviews, the author spends way too much time and lines of text telling us exactly how a bullet enters a body, bounces around, and exits. I've skipped whole paragraphs just jumping through these descriptions. They do nothing to further the story. If you like zombie stories though, this is a good one, it just gets bogged down in needless descriptions of bullet paths and bad editing.

A New World Taken eBook John O'Brien Reviews

Gave this book five stars because it, like the four before it are incredibly well written, well thought out and kept me turning page after page. The author stays true to the story, remains constant with his characters while allowing them to still evolve.

I started this series by chance. I cannot wait for the next book because of the great storyline provided by this rare find. Dare I say an amazing author over the cliché term of writer. The price I paid ($4) was fair for the amount written (sometimes an issue on ).

Without spoiling the story it is difficult to summarize the plot. (I was NOT meant to write summaries for the book jackets.) In this installment the climax is predictable however(and this is huge) it didn't diminish the book for me. It very definitely answers what is going on with at least some of those earlier afflicted. There is one other character I am eager to see what the long term affect is. The book rises in a crescendo of OMG moments all the way to the cliff hanger.... which is where I am now waiting. For those unfamiliar with this author's history it clearly shows he doesn't leave us waiting for too long and when it is published it's worth both the wait and the read. I am sincere when I say this series is well worth your time and money.
OK, after flying around the world, building a citadel and figuring out how to survive in a destroyed world, you have to find out that not everybody is a good guy!
I truly enjoyed the first three in this series, and I continued to enjoy the fourth. Not a disappointment at all. This series is gaining momentum from every angle. The first two books got 4-stars from me, the third got 5, and I'm giving this one 4.
Having answered the question of where to live now that there are hords of carnivorous Night Runners trying to eat you as soon as the sun sets or whenever you walk into a darkened building, Jack & Lynn have to deal with other survivors that don't have everybody's best interest in mind. I'm not too sure that I would have personally let my kids go out on a joy ride in this world, but it was the thing needed for the plot.
I did appreciate that this story didn't get into too much gratuitous depravity of the enemy compound, but surely there would be some? Without Rule of Law, there will be only so many temptations that bad men will resist. Also, I was disappointed that with all the attention previously given to getting into characters' heads that author completely missed developing the bad guys to any real depth. It just didn't work for me -- how did they come together, how did they decide to build their slave "plantation," and how did they intend to move forward into the future? Who was their leadership? Wouldn't they surely have known of other survivor compounds? And if they had scouted the Sanctuary that Jack & Lynn have established at the Cabela's building, wouldn't they necessarily have taken better precautions against being found or attacked? These short-comings are the reason for my 4-stars on this book.
I'm still a big fan, will surely read the coming books, and really like this series. But I do have to call 'em like I see 'em.
As fan of the survivalist, post-apocalyptic world genre this book got me hook, line and sinker!

SPOILER..kinda

This book contains the most amazing action scene I have ever read...the night in the prison is AMAZING!

This is an exciting adventure with true emotions and realistic abilities. This book is action packed while giving you an in depth view to this new world, trust me, it will leave you dying for the next book! Once you get into Jack Walker's world, you don't want to leave!

The story is based in a post-apocalyptic Pacific Northwest. The enemy is now fellow Americans who are no longer completely human. A flu epidemic with casualties out of control, similar to the black plague but worse, only this time a vaccine is developed on the fly to combat the virus, it is quickly distributed to the population after being fast tracked through the FDA. Turns out... although the vaccine does keep some odd 30% alive it changes their DNA and they become...Night Runners. At the end of first wave of death due to the flu and subsequent vaccines, as society collapses and millions die, a mere 1% of humans survive.

The group of survivors this book follows is led by Jack Walker, former Captain in the Air Force and father of three. Initially I was hesitate about the children but they became one of my favorite parts of the story as this is the first book that I have read that followed the adaptation of different aged kids to this new world. Jack is a complex man who is both loving father, gentle lover, respected leader and skilled killer. He has many tools in his arsenal from past experience when he was in the military.

You follow Jack and his children through day to day life in this new world. Every adventure is well written, and I would like to say thank you to the author for his time in the military, it is obvious from the level of detail that he has been in many "sporty", as Jack would say, situations! You really feel like you are there watching these Night Runners get shot up, he takes you through the entire flight of the bullet. I really enjoyed his no BS attitude too. He is a great leader who is intelligent, caring, and strong, the best you could ask for in this situation.

I recommend starting at the first book, once you do you won't stop until you finish Dissension. I think it took my about 2 weeks to read all 6 of them.

This is a great series, I have loved all of them....
NOW I CAN'T WAIT FOR BOOK 7!!
