The Tapper Twins Go to War With Each Other edition by Geoff Rodkey Children eBooks

You guys.  This is one of my all time favorite middle school chapters books.  Well, now, anyways since it wasn't around when I was a kid. I lead a book club for fifth graders.  The teacher requires the books to be a specific lexile (in our case 800-1200), the girls wanted a humorous book, and I really wanted a strong female lead.  I love the classics like Old Yeller and The Hatchet, but I really wanted to highlight a strong, goal oriented, capable female.  After some googling, I came up with "The Tapper Twins Go to War (with each other)" by Geoff Rodkey.  This book is pure genius.  It exposes the kids to a genre that many fifth graders aren't exposed to: Oral History.  Oral History - and the kids loved it!  Also, it met the other requirements I was looking for, huge bonus.

The story highlights the excitement of a prank war between two twin siblings.  In between the bouts of goofiness were the more serious aspects of a war history, such as the guilt brought on by doing such awful acts to each other and hearing the cries of those affected negatively by the actions.  However, the book was gentle enough that I felt comfortable having them read those parts alone at home and then facilitating a real discussion while in group about the correlation to real war.  They grasped the meaning but kept their sweet innocence in tact.

What I disliked: Nothing.  I HIGHLY recommend this book for middle school students.

What I liked: Everything! I loved the humor, I loved how the female lead was preparing herself to run for president some day, I loved the genuine niceness of the male lead, I loved the oral history aspect of this book, I loved how modern it is, and I loved that five out of the six girls I had in the group literally begged for the next Tapper Twins book in the series to be our next in Book Club.  Serious win.

The Tapper Twins Go to War With Each Other edition by Geoff Rodkey Children eBooks Reviews

I don't normally like this type of book, but the problems between these siblings was very real.
Fun book. Interesting read. Easy read. Bought for kids to read for summer. Excellent condition.
My daughter loves reading
It was funny and awesome! The twins play mean pranks on each other and they totally go overboard. I recommend this to children 7 and up. It is a good read for a nighttime book with parents.
My daughter enjoyed reading this book. She was 11 when she read it.
This book was pretty good, but it wasn't written that well. The margin notes appeared oddly as an ebook and was confusing to read.

There was also a problem of a story line. The book ended odly and they made up in like 2 pages and didn't make sense, as there was no reson really for why they made up.

It was good though because the book was interesting to read and ended up having a lot of funny jokes. It was good and all, especially because it was cheap. I wouldn't buy it if it was $9.99 instead of $5.99.
This is a remarkably funny and well-done book. Hovering between graphic novel and novel, this book is an excellent example of this new genre of junior fiction, aimed at the reluctant reader (lots of font changes to denote texting, or dialogue, or emails; lots of pictures and cartoon drawings illustrating hysterical details, which expand the narrative). I laughed out loud when I read this to my identical twins, and was delighted to see the one who is more of a reluctant reader grab the book, read ahead, and re-read the book several times. Even my older, Reader son enjoyed this one. We are eagerly awaiting the sequel, to be released this Fall.
