Dream Eyes Dark Legacy Novel Jayne Ann Krentz 9780399158957 Books

It's official. My days as a JAK fan have come to an end. Her writing has become so formulaic that it's beginning to sound as though it's written BY a computer, not just ON a computer.

I finished the book, but it took me weeks to read it. Nothing compelled me turn the page - dialogue was flat, the situation was so complicated that I couldn't recall from one page to the next what was going on and who the bad guys were or might be, and by the time I got near ending #2, I didn't even remember who the Bad Guy for THAT ending was in the story. I mean, c'mon... there are 'red herrings', and then there are dead herrings which just stink when you finally discover them at the bottom of the trash bin.

And, as at least one other reviewer mentioned, the ending just dragged ON and ON and ON and ON... By the time I read the last actual page, I could barely recall what the point of the book was.

SO BORING! (Good sleep aid, though!)

Dream Eyes Dark Legacy Novel Jayne Ann Krentz 9780399158957 Books Reviews

Interesting, fun, moved along and kept interest up. Jayne adds humor to her stories, and creates a well balanced story, with the characters being relatable, and one wants to find out what happened next.
It takes a leap of the fantastical at times and you have to accept the premise of the paranormal to read her series, but if you do, and accept it, you will enjoy the story, and care about the characters. These characters are more developed than the Sam and Abby in Copper Beach. That is a good story too, but this one seems to make the characters more approachable.
I don’t believe you will be disappointed you bought the book. Enjoy!
Enjoyed this book as all of Jayne's physic series. She grabs you In the first chapter and. keeps you turning pages. Sometimes I can figure out the murderer a d so crimes there's a twist. She keeps you guessing until the end. Usually in these series she does trilogies. You meet some interesting characters in this book with unusual talents. A great read!
Love this author!! She is one of my favorite! When you have one of her books, you are involved from the first chapter. I could never put her books down! I have always feel that I'm part of the stories. WOW! I must find a way to get more of her books. They must join the rest of my library. Thanks!
paranormal romance at it's most delicious IS JayneAnn Krentz. I've yet to find one of hers that I didn't enjoy but this new series promises lots of twists and turns and new discoveries. Satisfying romance as always with otherworldly dangers to contend with, the pages turn themselves
Loved the cover and the link to another interesting family of possibilities for future novels... but it didn't capture me as many of her other stories had. I am still a fan and even her formulaic stories appeal to me. However, this is not one that I will re-read or have ever been drawn to think of once I finished. Her descriptions were much more interesting than the characters or the setting. Still, it is a good read if that is all you are looking for.
I love JAK in all her versions & eagerly await each new novel. Each year I reread all but the serial romances from the 70s. I don't mind the plot recycling the other reviewers have mentioned. She does them well & her characters are very enjoyable. With all of that said - as much as I generally enjoyed Dream Eyes - there were so many vague references to Justin's trauma with his former employer I thought I'd forgotten it from an earlier story. I reread Copper Beach - nope nothing. I went online to see if there was a short story that discussed it - nope.

I don't normally expect to have everything spelled out - in fact I hate it when authors do that to readers. But I'm unsettled by this aspect of the story & annoyed.

I agree with other reviewers - so glad not to have the Arcane & Nightshade thing repeated. That drama was getting really old. There were allusions to it of course but stopped at vague hints.

Don't let this book be the first one of JAK's you read - there are so many great ones to read instead. One of my favorites is Absolutely Positively or her Mistress under her pen name Amanda Quick. Love the Jayne Castle one - Amaryllis!
"You're a damn good liar," he said. He smiled. "I like that in a woman."

THE STORY Judson Coppersmith is doing a favor for his brother by helping out Gwen Fraiser who has found a friend dead and needs help. Both Judson and Gwen have psychic talents and both are keeping secrets about them. When it appears that a killer has returned from the grave to kill again, Gwen wants to know who is continuing the killer's work. Someone appears to be using psychic means to commit murders that look like natural deaths and Gwen may be next on the killer's list.

OPINION This is a story that really hinges on the suspense story. In that, the story does not disappoint. The story is twisty and has some surprising turns. The characters of Gwen and Judson really need the suspense story to keep the book going because they don't have much tension between them. Things are resolved quickly as a matter of romance and the emphasis here is on the suspense rather than personal obstacles between the couple. A good solid romantic suspense with some paranormal elements.

WORTH MENTIONING Fans of Krentz's Arcane series will have a surprise toward the end of the book.

FINAL DECISION This book is pushed along by two interesting characters who are both in need at the beginning of the book and a twisty suspense story that keeps surprising.

CONNECTED BOOKS DREAM EYES is the second book in the Dark Legacy series. It can be read as a standalone although there is overlap with the first book.

STAR RATING I give this book 4 stars.
